Coast Guard Height Weight



The U.S. Coast Guard height weight standards include a measurement for "frame size".  Similar to the concept of being small, medium or large boned the U.S. Coast Guard uses that as a factor to determine the coast guard minimum and maximum height and weight allowances.  The frame size differs between men and women and there are different charts for both.

To determine what frame size someone is you measure the wrist circumference of the dominate hand.  The hand is flat with the fingers spread out.  The wrist is measured from the bony prominence or "knob" all the way around.  Be sure to measure both "knobs" of the wrist and to keep the tape flat and without twisting. 

The U.S. Coast Guard allows nurses to enlist or be commissioned if they meet the height weight standards or the body fat standards. Potential recruits who exceed the weight standard for their height can have their body fat determined.
